Who are the ones who don’t make it in?
Michael Hoopes is an asylum officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Arlington Asylum Office, where he interviews asylum seekers living in the Washington, D.C.-area and in immigration detention centers across the country. Hoopes received a BA in history from BYU and an MA in Latin American studies from the University of New Mexico. While at BYU, he was a 2012 Kennedy Scholar and studied forced migration through an ORCA grant.
