Mike Squires is presently the government affairs director for Utah Associated Municipal Systems (“UAMPS”). Squires oversees the government affairs activity in six western states and the federal government managing three contract lobbyists in Utah, Idaho, and Washington, D.C.

He got his start in politics while still in high school and ultimately started his own political consulting and fund-raising company in Utah consulting on local, state, and federal campaigns. Squires worked for the lt. governor of Utah and also as a congressional staffer covering health care, energy, and environmental issues. In 2018, he ran in a special election for the Utah State Senate.

Squires received a BS in political science from Brigham Young University (working as a TA for the Professor Quin Monson) and a JD from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, with a graduate certificate in environmental and natural resources law. While in law school, he clerked for the Utah attorney general in the Environment and Health Division, where he worked on the Clean Air Act litigation for the State of Utah.

He sits on several community boards and associations, enjoys spending his free time in Utah’s outdoors, and finding any excuse to speak French.
