Robert R. King is a non-resident fellow at the Korean Economic Institute and Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. King was former U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues, appointed by President Obama in September 2009. He spent twenty-five years on Capitol Hill, serving as chief of staff to Congressman Tom Lantos, and served on the National Security Council staff as a White House Fellow, as assistant director at Radio Free Europe. King received a BA from Brigham Young University and a PhD in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
