Ray Sudweeks is a career Foreign Service Officer currently leading the foreign policy team in the Political Section at U.S. Embassy Beijing. His team has primary responsibility for U.S.-China Relations and China’s relations with Indo-Pacific countries. Mr. Sudweeks has over a decade experience working on North Korea from Washington and Embassy Seoul and traveled extensively inside the DPRK in 2011. He led a Provincial Reconstruction Team on Afghanistan’s border with Iran from 2012 to 2013, and led U.S.-India cooperation on clean and renewable energy from New Delhi from 2015 to 2019. In Washington assignments, he served tours as desk officer for both the Pacific Islands and Benelux countries. He and his wife Jennifer, also a Foreign Service Officer, served consular assignments in Shanghai. They are both proud alums of the Kennedy Center’s International Relations program. Mr. Sudweeks also earned an MPA from the Marriott School’s Romney Institute of Public Service and Ethics. He speaks Korean and Mandarin. The Sudweeks have three daughters who grew up in the Foreign Service.
