Experience the rich artistic and cultural traditions of Spain and Portugal while learning about and making art. The courses will make full use of the museums, artists, and cultural institutions in these two countries to help students develop a greater awareness of art and its development throughout history. Particular focus will be placed on art and culture of the Iberian Peninsula, both historic and current, and Spain as a meeting place of the diverse cultures of North Africa and Western Europe.
We will begin with a short stay in Lisbon and then make our way to Madrid by visiting the Alhambra, Great Mosque of Cordoba, and other significant sites of amalgamated cultural influences. The program will be stationary in Madrid for a number of weeks setting up studios and making art in response to our experiences.
